Budapest, 02 May 2024 - The team of HUMDA Lab, a research institute belonging to the Széchenyi University Group, finished 5th with the best lap time amoung the rookies in the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League (A2RL) autonomous formula car race on 27th April, which was organised for teams from world-renowned universities and research centres. The exciting race was won by the TUM Motorsport Team from the Technical University of Munich.
At the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League (A2RL) event, autonomous formula cars that can sense their surroundings and race around the track without human intervention have been brought together. The A2RL pushes the boundaries of future mobility by integrating artificial intelligence (AI), autonomy and extreme sports. The event could become one of the largest autonomous racing series in the world.
The HUMDA Lab team arrived in Abu Dhabi at the beginning of March to start their preparations for the A2RL race, which lasted eight weeks. They were on the track from early morning until late evening every day, working on the car and the software until the race on 27th April. Researching autonomous driving algorithms is a designated and priority task for the HUMDA Lab, and participating in the A2RL was an excellent opportunity to gather as much data, experience and routine as possible.
