In the F1Tenth races, we tested our algorithms on 1:10 scale cars compared to real racing vehicles and competed our skills against the international scientific field. Our team's main goal with the F1Tenth races was to prepare, quickly and efficiently test our developments and methodologies with real self-driving vehicles.
F1Tenth so far: Two races, two teams, two cars
We participated in two races in the year 2023 and in both races we entered two teams and two cars in the colours of Széchenyi István University and HUMDA Lab. The first competition took place in May at ICRA (the world's largest robotics and automation conference) in London. In addition to the original learning goals, the competitive spirit of the team did not let the team rest, so we could be proud of our engineers for their first autonomous competition. Out of more than 40 participants, the two teams came 11th and 12th, which was a great result.
The next competition was in September, in Detroit, at the IROS Conference, where we gained more useful experience, learned and cooperated with the participating teams, and finally, just barely missing the 3rd place, our autonomous "pilots" finished 4th and 5th in an exciting battle between our talented opponents.
The F1tenth vehicles and the developed methodology, algorithms and knowledge were handed over to the talented students of the Széchényi István University for educational and engineering purposes, to the delight and interest of many talented students who will find robotics and A.I. research fields as exciting as we do.
